Northpower
Hātea Me Hearties. Join us as we bring the Town Basin alive with music, dancing, singing, circus and all kinds of street performances! Northpower Hātea Me Hearties is a buskers festival, a family day out, and a chance to see Fringe artists in action. What is there to do? We’re glad you asked… Join the mermaid parade! Dress up in your nautical best, meet us on the Canopy Bridge at 11.30am and walk, dance and sing your way along the Hātea Loop to Hihiaua Cultural Centre and back again. Spot prizes for best dressed. Dance to the tunes spun by Beagle Radio DJs in Pūtahi Park. Check out the kids activities and bright sparks at the Northpower activity stations. Run away to the circus at the giant sundial. Get messy outside Reyburn House at the mud kitchen (drop in anytime, for ages 3–12). Create masks and monsters at Reyburn House Studio using junk, op-shop finds, bottles and loose parts (drop in anytime, for children and teenagers). Pause for a picnic among the sculptures and enjoy more musical treats. Help create a community Fringe quilt, led by fabric artist Ron Te Kawa, at Hihiaua Cultural Centre. Stop in for kai and storytelling at Hihiaua Cultural Centre. Spend the day enjoying music, arts, performance and a taste of Whangārei Fringe. Free event, but bring a little koha for the performers. |
